Denise's Story

My story I went into the US Army in 1986. I was stationed in Frankfurt Germany and in the four years I served I was fighting a war, but it wasn't against another country it was against someone in my Company. 378th P.S.C in Germany. I was young when I joined the military. I was enthusiastic and motivated to be all I could be. Things just didn't turn out the way I thought they would have. You see I was raped by another soldier, actually my First Sergeant, It was a really difficult time in my life and I was all alone. I started to drink and used drugs because of the shame and disappointment i felt because of the violent crime that happened to me. I finished my 4yr. term of enlistment and was honorably discharged to go on with the utter most chaotic lifestyle I could have ever known. One of drugs and booze! It got to the point that I had to do something or I was going to die. I got some help! I stayed straight for a while and had a relationship in marriage and had a beautiful little girl, Karah Ren'e Lenzi (18 yrs old now). I thought I would never go back to using or boozing, but I did. My Marraige was on the outs and he dabbed in crank once in a while, but he drank all the time. I just one day picked up and was off and running. In between the using and abusing I managed to create two beautiful boys Mark and Michael Anthony (10yrs Old) now. Yes, I had twin boys and I remember telling the doctor that I never did anything in moderation. Ha,ha, I was living in a homeless shelter when I was found out I was pregnant with twins. I was so blessed with these little boys and at that time in my life I had to make some changes. At that time in my life I had nothing and thought I was no...Expand for more
t worth nothing, but a little glimpes of light filled my heart with love and strength to keep going and try to turn my life around. I was living in a Homeless shelter in Oakland deep in the middle of all the drugs and crime you could ever imagine. If it wasn't for Jossie the lady of the house I would have never made it today. She would take me to pray at 4am -6am every week at this little church in Oakland. I thought I would never make it through one of these outings, but I did and as I sat in this Church and listened to others pray to God I felt something I never did before and that was hope. When I first used ot go I would fall asleep in the back row and pray no one noticed. As time continued and I kept going with her I started to pray a little more each time and it made me feel better. I don't know if it was the prayers that God heard, but I know I haven't made it today without Him on my side. He has been guiding me in my footsteps every step of the way. After my twin boys were born I thought things were going to be better and I would never go back to my old ways. Well, I did! Four years later I ended up using and boozing again. This time it took me further down, because they took my boys away from me. They are with a gaurdian today. I am not a bad person and a bad mother I am an Addict. Its not that I wanted these things to happen, but I have an addiction that is always with me. If I don't treat it everyday I lose touch and my addiction kicks in. It is a complicated disease, but it has a simple solution and that is NA. Narcotics Anonomous. I have been clean five years now and I am trying to be united back with my twins today. I have them in my life once again and I hav e
